Chemical Dispersants

How long do chemical dispersants stay in the environment?

Why use chemical dispersants if they are as dangerous as what you are trying to get rid of?

What will happen to the sea life eventually?

I think it can stay in the waters for hundreds of years, possibly, because unless people clean up every last drop, technically, it's still in the water.

I think that it was used because BP is a company that just had a HUGE disaster happen; a disaster that's gonna take a LOT of money to fix. And it's probably that BP is legally only obligated to clean up the oil, not necessarily restore the environment. And while we are doing our best to clean it up, BP is responsible for a big chunk of it and so they are trying to do their job (at the cheapest price) .

I'm worried that the sea life may never return to how it was (ex.) mutation), but, perhaps, in time, the sea life may not return to how it was, but at least return to a sufficient, healthy, fully-functioning habitat.
